Resumen


En este artículo me enfoco en discutir las formas en que las relaciones de poder se ocultan en la educación, la cultura y la economía, enfatizando en la naturaleza del poder diferencial y sobre los efectos de la política de exclusión y de las realidades opresivas que experimentan las personas. Recordando las conversaciones sostenidas con Paulo Freire vuelvo a reflexionar sobre el significado de la identidad y la raza para una pedagogía de los oprimidos y desarrollo lo que le habría dicho a Paulo si nuestras conversaciones hubiesen continuado. Dirigiré mi atención a las realidades de la raza en las naciones con las que estoy más familiarizado, aunque también me referiré a Brasil, Portugal y otros países. Mi base epistemológica será freireana interrogando la "cultura del silencio" en la que vivimos, especialmente los silencios de los grupos dominantes. Sostengo que los grupos dominantes prefieren vivir en una "niebla epistemológica", en la que no ver, no saber, es crucial para su dominio. Concluyo señalando que ver el mundo de manera más política, a través de los ojos de los oprimidos, es una condición necesaria pero no suficiente para la transformación social. Argumentaré que no es posible comprender completamente la génesis y los efectos de las “reformas” neoliberales y neoconservadoras en la educación y la sociedad en un gran número de naciones, sobre las cuales Freire tenía mucho que decir en sus últimos libros, sin colocar a la raza en el centro del análisis crítico
