Abstract

Music performance involves high requirements related to the acquisition of highly precise cognitive and motor skills. The musician usually sets goals for the quality of their performance and also for how they should feel in this situation. Furthermore, the musician, either the professional and the student, frequently must overcome situations in which they will be evaluated. To come through these situations, they usually attempt to moderate emotions, sometimes even hushing and hiding their emotionality during the musical performance, expecting that this will favor a performance of quality and excellence. In this work, we present preliminary results of a study using the International Affective Picture System (IAPS), a group of standardized images for studying emotions. Links have been established between emotions of positive and negative valence, and the music performance
