Abstract Although Latin American musicology has included the gender perspective among its research topics, this vision has not permeated studies on musicology itself and on those who practice the discipline. In this article, I discuss the existence of a Latin American musicological canon that has made the work of women musicologists invisible, for which I base my study on works by Juan Pablo González, Leonardo Waisman, Marcia Citron and Pilar Ramos. In order to reflect this situation, I explore three indicators that expose the current participation of Latin American women musicologists in professional instances: memberships in societies, publications in journals, and postgraduate teaching. Finally, in light of the results, I reveal three compensatory measures that may contribute to the visibility of Latin American female musicologists through the incorporation of women in different academic activities.
