Abstract The main objective of this piece is to analyze the cinematographic work produced in the 1980s by the Chilean director Cristián Sánchez. To achieve this, first, we will try to insert the filmmaker’s cinema under the category of modern cinema, linking it, in addition, with a reflexive and critical process that seeks to think - from the cinema as elaborate discourse - the world that was contemporary to him. To do this, we will pay attention to the configuration of an image linked to the slowdown of cinematographic time as a critical proposal that, while reflecting on the cinematographic image, also does it about historical time and the mismatch caused by the implantation of neoliberalism in the daily life of the characters he proposes.
