Abstract

This article addresses the political careers of municipal councilors in two large cities in Chile, from 1935 to 1963. The analysis is based on data from the local press and biographical information from secondary sources. After analyzing the electoral results, the article delves into the careers of those candidates who managed to transcend the municipal level. The main results show that the greatest difficulty in the transition from the municipality to the National Congress occurs during the candidate nomination stage, after which the chances of election were high.
