As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • If submitting to a peer reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring Anonymous Review should be followed.

 

Form and preparation of manuscripts

Articles or other contributions submitted must be original and unpublished. These should not have been sent for publication nor published elsewhere.

Articles must be sent through the journal's website, after registering the author. When images such as graphics, tables, etc. are included, they must be in black and white and sent in a separate file, indicating the approximate location. Photographs and maps must be digitized at a resolution of 300 DPI and in TIFF, JPG or PDF formats.

 

The title of the article (in Spanish and English) and the name of the author or authors must be indicated. With an asterisk, as a footnote, indicate academic degree, institution to which the author belongs, email address and ORCID. Indicate if the article is part of a research project, grant or other funding, and if it was presented as a paper at a conference.

The article must include a summary or abstract in Spanish and English, of one hundred words or less. Three to six keywords must be indicated.

The articles must consider an introduction, development of the theme and a conclusion.

Articles may have a minimum length of 15 pages and a maximum of 25 letter- sized pages, and must be spaced at one and a half, in Times New Roman font 12 pts., with margins of 3 cm. The maximum length of submissions includes the bibliography, notes, graphs, tables, photos, illustrations and quotes. Reviews will not exceed five pages, in the format cited.

Footnotes will be numbered consecutively at the bottom of the page. Sources and bibliography should be cited at the end of the text. The above according to the format " Full note References of the Chicago Manual of Style" and will be organized according to the following indications:

Unpublished sources:

In the case of manuscripts, the name of the document in italics will be cited in the footnote, followed by the name of the file and the location, the collection, the item (if it exists), the volume or file, the dossier (if it exists) and folio number. The abbreviation to be used in subsequent citations will be indicated in parentheses. In the sources section, only the file, background, volume and item from which the sources come will be indicated.

The articles that do not comply with the format and the requirements will be sent back to the authors for their adaptation to the standard; if they still do not comply, they will be rejected.

After the article is approved, if applicable, it will be returned to the authors to incorporate the corrections suggested by the reviewers. The authors must make the modifications suggested by the evaluators in a color other than black. If authors choose not to

incorporate some of the suggested changes, we ask them to explain why they were not included or justify their decision in notes in the right-hand margin of the document in Word.

The authors of approved articles must sign a letter relinquishing publication rights. The editorial staff of Tiempo Histórico will provide this letter.

During the editing stage, the editor-in-charge reserves the right to adjust any necessary details to maintain the style of Tiempo Histórico, as well as to correct minor drafting errors. At this stage, no major changes can be made to the texts (such as the inclusion of new paragraphs).

The names and email addresses entered in this publication will be used exclusively for the purposes there established and will not be available to third parties or for use to any other ends.
