Scope and policy
The journal Antropologías del Sur is open to researchers of different disciplines of social and human sciences. It receives contributions throughout the year and is published in June and December. These must be original, unpublished works in Spanish or Portuguese that have not been simultaneously summited for evaluation or promised to another publication. They must be based on research already finished or sufficiently advanced for their communication and should clearly show how they contribute to disciplinary discussions in theory and/or methodological ways, or how they broaden knowledge on specific socio-cultural problems from the perspective of other fields.
Antropologías del Sur makes open convocations to publish in dossiers on different subjects. The announcement of these, as well as the theme to be treated, depend exclusively on the Editorial Team.
By submitting their contribution, the authors consent to the publication of their work in the journal, if it is accepted. Should authors later wish to include the same work in another publication, they must refer to the number of Antropologías del Sur where it originally appeared, with prior authorization from the Editorial Committee of the journal.
The editor will notify authors of the receipt of their manuscripts. This, however, does not indicate immediate acceptance for publication. The Editorial Team reviews articles in the first instance, according to objectives and guidelines of the journal and/or the subject of the corresponding issue. Once their relevance is established, articles are subjected to an external evaluation by two specialists in the double-blind modality, following an evaluation guideline. Reviews, essays and translations will be reviewed by the Editorial Team alone. The number of articles published in each issue corresponds to the editorial flow of the journal.
Form and preparation of manuscripts
Antropologías del Sur publishes original contributions according to the profile indicated in the section of Articles, and collaborations for the sections of Reviews, Essays, Translations, Interviews and Documents.
1. The manuscripts must be presented in Times New Roman letters, size 12, normal style, on letter-sized pages, spaced at 1.5 with margins of 3 cm.
2. The original articles must have a minimum extension of 8,000 words and a maximum of 12,000, including footnotes and references to bibliographic figures, images, tables and grafts. However, if the Editorial Team considers it appropriate, they can accept work of other extensions.
3. Essays must be of a minimum extension of 6,000 words and a maximum of 9,000, including footnotes, and references to bibliographic figures, images, tables and graphs.
4. Reviews must have an extension of 1,300 to 2,000 words, according to the format indicated above. The reviews must not be written by authors of the book nor exceed the length established.
5. We expect the texts of articles, reviews and essays, to be laid out coherently, according to clear objectives that have an introduction, development of the subject, and a closing statement of its contributions, limitations, and/or new questions.
6. The articles must be presented according to this outline:
Titles in Spanish and English
Summary in Spanish and English (150 words maximum) that states the structure of the article, precisely and clearly
Keywords (3-5)
Body of the text
Bibliographic references (only of quoted texts).
7. Titles must reflect the content of articles and essays in a clear and concise manner. They must be centered. Times New Roman font should be size 18 in lower case, bolded letters. The Reviews must respect formal aspects (letters, spacing, etc.) in relation to the title and information about the author.
8. Footnotes: use the automatic system, with small numbers and place them at the end of the text, before bibliographic references. We recommend the use of footnotes exclusively to add information or make complimentary comments to the content of the article, therefore suggest a moderate use of them.
9. Tables, graphs and images: all must clearly state the source (or whether the author created them), indicating the reference with its corresponding number. The graphs must be in black and white, using Times New Roman letters and with only the first letter capitalized. Tables, graphs and images must be presented in an editable format (we suggest Excel), and submitted as an archive attached to the article, the same for images. The location of any of these must be indicated in the text. The minimum resolution for images is 350 dpi, and they should be in summited as jpg. The author must certify having obtained the corresponding permission for their reproduction where needed.
Bibliographic References: The list of bibliographic references, in alphabetical order according to the first letter of the reference, must be placed at the end of the text. If many works by the same author(s) are cited, they must be in chronological order, but without the need to name the source repeatedly. It is fundamental that all citations made in the text are found in the bibliographic references. Below, we give some examples for writing up the references:
