Abstract

Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship deployed various mechanisms to legitimize and strengthen its support in Chilean society. One of them was the attempt to build the loyalty of the youth sectors. It had the double purpose of purging the revolutionary youth of the Popular Unity and ensuring the reproduction of the political, economic and social order imposed by the military regime. This paper analyzes the components of the youth archetype related to this project and its role in the social disciplining promoted in the universities. It focuses on the University of Concepción and the measures promoted by its deputy rectors.
