Circulation and Conflict Among Artisans in the Late Colonial Kingdom of Chile (1763-1808): Crimes, Workplace Violence, and Banishment

Abstract

This work aims to analyze the circulation of artisans in the late colonial Kingdom of Chile (1763-1808), focusing on the conflicts and mobility of apprentices and craftsmen who had not yet attained the rankof master. The article examined judicial records using a qualitative approach, this allowed us to reconstruct these individuals’ trajectories. The cases studied show that circulation processes reveal the difficulties faced by individuals in training when moving to new geographical spaces, as well as the inherent complexities of obtaining the title of master.
