Abstract This article proposes that the first saltpeter miners identified a creek or “Abra” between the Lagarto and Rosita hill as a route from the Huara and Negreiros plains. They established a “georeferenced point” to make nitrate petitions to the Mining Provincial Council during the Peruvian period. In this particular site, the article highlights a solar geoglyph on Cerro Rosita known as (Ex) Sol de Aura. The importance of the “Abra de Negreiros” was confirmed as a mining exploration point, and also as a route marker between the Tarapacá Valley and Negreiros.
