After the pandemic and the sustained growth of cultural consumption platforms through streaming, cultural participation has changed significantly. In this context, cultural spaces such as museums, theatres, libraries, and art galleries, among others, have been compelled to develop new strategies for attracting and forming audiences. In highly complex societies characterized by experiencing processes of social acceleration, the theory of resonance developed by sociologist Hartmut Rosa provides theoretical categories that help to think about new angles of work for considering the future of cultural institutions. The article begins with a historical review of the social function of cultural participation and then analyses the emergence of artistic and cultural mediation at the end of the 20th century. It then focuses on describing how the theory of resonance contributes to deepening the understanding of the concept of mediation in the current context. In the final part of the article, future challenges of cultural participation are explored, along with its contribution to strengthening democracy in Latin America.
Tomás Peters Marta Hernández ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://revistas.academia.cl/index.php/actos 2025-07-29 2025-07-29 7 13 3 20 10.25074/actos.v7i13.2911 Embodying knowledge through Latin American performance. https://revistas.academia.cl/index.php/actos/article/view/2922
This essay is based on the following research questions: How does Latin American performance produce and transmit knowledge? In what ways does Latin American performance construct new subjectivities and imaginaries that speak from the colonial wound and enable liberation from the theory of knowledge established in and by the Academy? How can knowledge be embodied in beings (women) who, in the Eurocentric imaginary, are considered ontologically inferior?

This text proposes a reflection on the production of embodied knowledge transmitted through Latin American feminist performative practices, aiming to challenge the hegemonic forms established in the Academy—both in the conception of art and in the production/transmission of knowledge.

Today, against these characteristics and from a decolonial paradigm, a Latin American history emerges that seeks to subvert prevailing ways of thinking and power structures in order to reconfigure dominant epistemologies. The performative actions of Latin American feminist artists involve a stance against colonial violence on bodies, proposing—through new aesthetic and ethical-political codes—alternative ways of producing knowledge through art and the body.

Daniela Bertolini O´Ryan ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2025-07-29 2025-07-29 7 13 21 46 10.25074/actos.v7i13.2922 Educar desde el Arte: https://revistas.academia.cl/index.php/actos/article/view/2968
This article focuses on how artistic tools from the visual arts—such as painting, drawing, and sculpture—can be used in art therapy to foster creativity in preschool-aged children. The research was conducted at Rogerio Zamora Palacios School in Pasaje, Ecuador, with the aim of evaluating how art therapy can serve as a pedagogical resource to develop creative thinking in children aged 5 to 6. The study compares two groups from the same educational level at the school, one of which participated in a series of art therapy-based activities. The results show a notable increase in the creativity levels of the children who took part in the intervention, according to previously established indicators. These findings highlight the value of the visual arts, approached from a therapeutic perspective, as an accessible, effective, and relevant tool within educational settings—particularly during the early stages of cognitive and emotional development.

This note is an analysis of the political, social and cultural behavior surrounding the proliferation of Afro-Antillean rhythms and their contribution to the joy of the world. It emphasizes power, hegemony, resistance and subordination, which reveal hidden and open, accepted and detested musical attitudes and discourses; which, in essence, represent power relations. Our time period begins with the slavery regime in the 16th century and continues until the first decades of the 20th century, when the bufos, the contradanza and the danzón proliferated, which gave rise to the different ways of interpreting mambo. The period of these rhythms began in Cuba at the beginning of the 20th century, and extended to the middle of the same century when it became popular in Mexico and the United States.
Ramiro Hernández Romero ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2025-07-29 2025-07-29 7 13 67 89 10.25074/actos.v7i13.2881 Spanish https://revistas.academia.cl/index.php/actos/article/view/2809
This article analyzes the programming of seven professional orchestras in Chile between 2010 and 2024, with a special focus on the inclusion of Chilean works, within the context of public policies requiring a 25% quota of national music in certain ensembles. Trends in the preservation of the Western canon and diversity in the national orchestral repertoire are examined. The research reveals that the presence of Chilean music is limited, though variable depending on the orchestra, and highlights the impact of funding mechanisms on programming. Through the analysis of over 1,000 concerts and 3,200 works, the study provides a broad perspective on how orchestral repertoires reflect tensions between the global canon and the promotion of local music.
Jose Manuel Izquierdo Konig Diego Caris Lazo Daniela Fugellie Videla Ignacio Rivera Volosky ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2025-07-29 2025-07-29 7 13 90 122 10.25074/actos.v7i13.2809 Español https://revistas.academia.cl/index.php/actos/article/view/2958
This article aims to show how the migration processes in Chile since the 90s have contributed, by entering into a transcultural process, to install new cultural manifestations that are redefined in our territory and acquire a local tinge. The Afro-Uruguayan rhythm Candombe was present in Chile in the mid-90s with the formation of a first comparsa. Currently the Comparsa, under the name of Sociedad Candombera Catanga, has an active presence in the Barrio Plaza Bogotá of our capital (Barrio Matta Sur), this work establishes from an auto-ethnographic perspective a work where the researcher is part of this musical practice in active form and that finally blends into the phenomenon.

Tania Haydeé Medalla Contreras Marcelo Cornejo Purán Camila Soto Gutiérrez ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2025-07-29 2025-07-29 7 13 141 161 10.25074/actos.v7i13.2855 Exoticism and Tradition in Latin American Opera: Appropriations and Resistances https://revistas.academia.cl/index.php/actos/article/view/2914
This article explores the presence of exoticism in Latin American operas written between the 19th and 21st centuries, analyzing how the idea of the "exotic" contributes to shaping a regional cultural identity. Drawing from authors such as Edward Said and Ralph Locke, and from musicological debates surrounding identity and representation, the text examines both the staging and the musical construction of the "Other" in various operas that incorporate indigenous or Afro-descendant themes. The article argues that exoticism, while emerging from a colonial and Eurocentric logic, is resignified by Latin American composers as a space of resistance and affirmation. By analyzing specific operatic cases, the article reveals how the appropriation and transformation of exotic elements help construct a unique narrative about Latin American cultural identity.

In the 21st century, mental health has globally emerged as a highly relevant issue, particularly among young people, who face significantly increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression, a situation exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This thesis explores the impact of independent art as a tool for personal expression and support in the context of the youth mental health crisis in Chile. Through interviews with a group of young artists who practice creative activities independently, we analyze how the act of creating can positively influence their emotional well-being, facilitating emotional management and promoting personal development. The results underscore that independent artistic practice creates safe spaces for individual expression, fosters self-discovery, and contributes to developing resilience in the face of difficult situations. This analysis suggests that independent art has enormous potential as a tool to address youth mental health challenges, opening avenues for new psychosocial support strategies.
Emiliano Ramirez Espina ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2025-07-29 2025-07-29 7 13 209 232 10.25074/actos.v7i13.2996
